Hepatitis C

Hundreds of people in Spokane County are diagnosed with chronic Hepatitis C every year.  CHAS is one of the few clinics in Spokane County where people who are diagnosed with the disease have a chance at receiving treatment.  Current CHAS patients who have a primary care provider can get referrals to the Hepatitis C clinic to receive an evaluation, and possibly treatment.

If patients qualify and are accepted into the Hepatitis C program, they are taken through the entire course of treatment, for up to 48 months.  Throughout the program we will provide:

• Case Management Support: We will help you with financial support and other practical issues.
• After-Hours Support: We will be here for you every step of they way.  If you have side effects from your treatment, or time-sensitive questions, you can contact us after hours.

Currently, due to the small size of our program, we cannot accept all patients who are diagnosed with Hepatitis C.  Ask your primary care provider if you are the right candidate for referral into the program.

I first became interested in treating chronic Hepatitis C after one of my patients died of liver failure, unable to make it on to the transplantation list in Seattle.  Many patients with chronic Hepatitis C develop cirrhosis and ultimately suffer from liver failure, but treatment of the infection with anti-viral therapy can prevent this fate in many cases and is available in the Spokane area.  I discovered that this infection can be treated in a primary care setting, and I have enjoyed learning the specialty skills and knowledge necessary to offer this treatment to our patients at CHAS.  It has been especially gratifying to offer new hope to people with Hepatitis C who are motivated to create a brighter health future for themselves.
